I had a really hard time naming this painting as I see so much in it, none of which was intended when I was painting it! They were just shapes - black lines drawn somewhat randomly and then colored in. It just evolved on its own. One is the game relation, due to the bright colors, fun playful shapes, the center that is reminiscent of a checkerboard, and the 'game pieces' that seem to sit on the board. The other is the reference to the four elements - lower left is earth, upper left is sky, right side is a fish jumping out of water, and the heart and upper pink are fire. Earth, air, fire, water. It feels like a circular journey.
Thanks to Katy Emms from England for her wonderful comments about this piece and helping to give me the push I needed to finally name it.
Watercolor on watercolor paper.
